Key Fob Not Working? Try These Fixes Before Calling Anyone
A key fob that suddenly stops working is frustrating — but it's usually a simple fix. Work through these steps before spending money on a replacement.

Most key fob problems are solved with a $5 battery. Try these first.
Replace the Battery First
The most common cause of a dead key fob is a dead battery. Most fobs use a CR2032 coin battery available at any drugstore or Walmart for under $5. Open the fob with a small flathead screwdriver, swap the battery, and test.
Test the Physical Key
Every key fob has a physical key blade hidden inside. If the fob electronics fail, you can still unlock your car manually. Look for a small button or slider on the fob to release the key blade.
Try Reprogramming the Fob
Sometimes a fob loses its programming — especially after a dead battery or if you accidentally triggered a reset. Many vehicles have a DIY reprogramming sequence (check your owner's manual). If that doesn't work, a locksmith can reprogram it in minutes.
Check for Interference
Strong radio frequency interference from nearby electronics, certain parking garages, or even some shopping centers can temporarily block your fob signal. Move away from the area and try again.
